My favorite description of who I am came from a high school friend who wrote this about me ages ago in our year book: “ [she] has the will to do and the soul to dare”. Since then, I have tried to aspire to this in how I live my life and in the way I approach my art as well. For me, creating art is about putting in the time to learn one’s craft, and then daring to break through the mundane to achieve the extraordinary. I do not think of my art as self expression at all. But rather, in trying to understand how light and shadow define an object, or learning how to capture the mood in a landscape or portrait, I hope to be the catalyst for the viewer’s own imagination to take over.
Artists that have been catalysts for my imagination are Rembrandt, Vermeer, Sargent, Sorolla, and the Italians of the Macchiaoli movement. I hope that their influence will someday manifest in even one brush stroke of my own!
But for now, as I continue to “do and dare”, please visit my website often. I will change out my paintings regularly to offer my viewers a constant variety of art that I hope will become a window to their imagination. Let me know what you think!
